Hi! I’m Karyssa.
A Gospel-centered writer, editor, and speaker.
My goal is to clearly and compellingly share the truth, the way, and the life through writing, editing, and speaking.
A Little About Me
I grew up in Vermont. (If I’m the first Vermonter you’ve ever met, I’ve heard that many times before haha.)
The first phase of my Bible and Theology education was at Wheaton College in IL.
After graduation, my husband and I started at Crossroads Evangelical Church (part of the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches) where he is now a pastor.
I received a Master’s of Media Arts from Dallas Theological Seminary (over 40 credit hours of Bible and Theology and over 20 credit hours of creative communication.)
I currently am writing for Dr. Ed Stetzer’s editorial team, speaking for various ministries, and editing a commentary on the book of Isaiah.
My Beliefs
The Bible
I believe the original texts of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, which the Church historically accepted as the Holy Bible, are God-breathed. These Scriptures are truth, written by holy men who were chosen and equipped by God for this special task. I believe the Scriptures, errorless in the original documents, are divine authority in all matters which they address.
Humanity
I believe that men and women were created by God in the image of God without sin.
I believe that humanity chose to rebel against God, resulting in spiritual death (separation from God) and physical death. As a result, every human is born with a sinful nature that is addicted to sin and thus unable to do enough good works to achieve God’s standard of holiness. Therefore, every person is dead in their sins and unable to rescue themselves from their sin-addicted state.
I believe that a person’s earthly separation from God due to sin becomes an eternal separation from God after death; this is hell. Only by receiving salvation can one’s relationship with God be restored.
God
I believe in the one and only true God who is Spirit. He is self-existent, infinite, personal, unchangeable, and eternal in His being. He is perfect in holiness, righteousness, love, justice, goodness, wisdom, and truth. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the creator and sustainer of all things, both visible and invisible. He is both immanent in and transcendent to the creation. The one triune God exists and reveals Himself as three persons, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I acknowledge that all we know about God is by revelation. I look forward to the day when we will know Him fully.
Salvation
I believe that God is holy and therefore will not dwell with sin. Yet, He still loves us and wants a relationship with us.
Therefore, God provided Jesus, who is both fully man and fully God. Jesus Christ voluntarily offered Himself on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for sin so that all who believe in Him may be saved.
Salvation is given by grace through faith, which is inseparable from repentance. This results in justification, regeneration, and sanctification, culminating in glorification and resurrection.
